Rock bit

The rock bit is usually used in soft to hard formations when the dth hammer loses of its effectiveness or when the driller lacks such equipment.
The drilling with rock bit is generally used with a mud pump.

There are two families of roller cone bits:
- Rock bit with steel tooth for soft to medium formations
- Rock bit with tungsten carbide TCI for medium to very hard formations

The rock bits are classified according to IADC codes
